Do you have a passion and gift for sharing your Christian faith with children and young people in fun and creative ways – to inspire and encourage spiritual growth?
If so, our Youth & Children’s may be for you!
St Paul’s Holgate is a thriving Anglican church in beautiful York, with well-established youth & children’s work, and a strong family appeal. The pandemic has impacted us, yet through the work of our former Youth and Children’s Worker, alongside a committed volunteer team we have managed to successfully restart our Children and Young peoples work. We have a good relationship with our local church primary school and seek to continue to develop our work with them. In April 2020 our new Rector started working with us and we are currently going through an exciting process of discerning God’s vision for ourselves and our new partner church, St Barnabas, Leeman Road.
Our Youth and Children’s Worker will join with our Children’s and Families Coordinator to plan, co-ordinate and oversee all of the youth and children’s activities here at St Paul’s. This means leading both Sunday and mid-week groups, as well as helping develop and grow the ministry’s volunteer team. There will be slightly more emphasis on young people within this role, however, there will be a need to be part of children’s work too. This role will be supervised by our Children’s and Families Coordinator. The successful applicant will be connected into the supportive staff team and attend staff meetings where time allows.
We are looking for someone who has experience of working with children and young people, ideally in a church context – if you have a relevant qualification, that’s great but not essential. You’ll need strong people skills, and a willingness to do some up-front speaking – eg. leading family services, assemblies, and meetings of volunteers. Organisational skills are always helpful, and a creative & proactive attitude will help you identify and suggest improvements and changes.
In addition, there is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) under the Equality Act 2010, that the successful applicant will be a practicing Christian. The appointee to this post will be subject to an enhanced clearance through the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS).
The post is 10 hours per week at a rate of £9.90/hr (equivalent of £19,305 as a full-time post).
